This New Horror Film Is Now Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Romantic Bond.

Consider this a dare for partners in committed relationships who enjoy horror films: Get comfortable with your significant other and stream Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its online premiere on the Hulu service. At first glance, it could look like typical body horror, but inside Together exists a profound contemplation about our choices in loving each other.

A Directorial Debut Delving into Partnership Complexities

Together marks the debut feature-length film for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It stars actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as a couple named Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have been together for ten years. United in marriage in reality in 2017, Franco and Brie contribute a particular energy to their roles, expertly portraying both the joys and frustrations of a committed partnership.

The plot starts when Tim and Millie transition from the urban environment to the countryside for her career. A commonly used narrative setup, admittedly, but that’s largely where the conventions cease. Together becomes as much a examination of mental states of the pair’s relationship as it is a film about physical terror.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While trekking near their rural residence, a tempest descends, and the protagonists discover an subterranean cavern. After spending the night there and finally finding a way out, a strange force starts to affect the pair. This force induces a paranormal intimacy between them that goes far beyond simple connection.

The whole movie is a methodically building of scares, weaving in elements of fever-dream horrors, disturbing (but not excessively graphic) biological grotesqueries, and authentically humorous exchanges (sometimes in the middle of something horrific). The director weaves these elements together expertly and delivers them in a gradually swelling sense of impending doom.

Layered Performances

A great deal of Together is solely Brie and Franco, and they skillfully illustrate numerous complexities to the characters’ relationship. Her self-assurance and emotional bond is deteriorating due to a distance. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his hesitance to pursue anything but his floundering music career inexorably rises.

In contrast, Tim's character feels trapped and cut off by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve relocated rural and distant from his network of friends. He dreads the idea of completely losing his sense of self in his partner. This fear is intensified by the circumstance he lacks a driver's license and needs Millie for mobility.

The director's cleverest decision in this movie avoids making either of his characters the clear bad guy.

Both characters face the kind of problems that come with any relationship after ten years. At their core, they have affection for each other. They share moments of joy, comfort one another, and are vulnerable at times. But under the surface, there’s an inescapable current of uncertainty about their relationship.

Allegory and Meaning

While the supernatural forces in Together symbolize these concerns of codependency and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the symbolism does not come across as hamfisted or pretentious. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments offer a brilliant analogue to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the supernatural and the personal enhance each other symbiotically.

A Debated Finale

Together’s final act, which won’t be spoiled here, has created disagreement on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. It has been said that those not in relationships have interpreted the film as a strong argument for remaining unattached. Meanwhile, a few pairs who were in conflict found that the film ended up guiding them to make up.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own reaction could potentially serve as a telling indicator of how you think about commitment. Will the finale plant anxiety and horror, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you see yourself in either protagonist and feel frustration, or simply glance toward your significant other and utter, “I understand that choice”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an test you can experience at this very moment.

Together is currently playing on Hulu's platform now.
